The Owlets released 10 butterflies into the sensory garden. They enjoyed observing them fluttering from flower to flower.

Children came dressed in rainbow colours to celebrate inclusivity. During our assembly we explored the fact that we are all different and it is important to be kind to everyone.
The Snowy Owls have been learning about the anatomy of the ukulele. They are now able to identify and name the fret, fretboard, tuning pegs, nut, strings, sound hole, saddle and bridge. The children composed and notated their own pitch patterns with great success.
The Owlets have been learning about different Life Cycles. They have enjoyed reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar to learn about the life cycle of a butterfly. In class we have watched real caterpillars build a cocoon and then emerge as beautiful butterflies. Welcome to the Owlets class, Bessie, Jessie, Bill, Bob, Woody, Percy, Nala, Buzz and Sparkles - all named by the children.
The butterflies will be released into the sensory garden where we can observe them in their natural habitat. The Year 4 children worked hard towards their Level 1 Award. The children learnt how to control their bikes: including setting off, cruising, slowing down, braking and stopping. The children were proud to receive a certificate and badge on completion of the course.
The Year 3 children spent time exploring the forest school area and hunting for different leaves. The children found an array of different shaped leaves which they then carefully identified with the help of Ranger Rob.
Our Y6s spent 2 days this week learning about cycle and road safety, most earning their Level 2 award. Marghitta and Shaun made safety the first priority, but also worked with the children to build their confidence and awareness of travelling on the roads. Marghitta was adept at making the occasional adjustment to bikes to make them more rideable.
Barn Owls were successfully coached in the rules and techniques for triple jump by Mr Pugh this week. Again, the focus was on bettering each person's or each group's best distance, rather than competing against each other.
Naturally, shade was found when needed. It was an absolute pleasure to spend two days away with our wonderful year 3 children. The children were all a credit to their families and we were so proud of each and every one of them. Their behaviour was exemplary and this was commented upon by staff at Adventure Okehampton. The children displayed excellent skills of teamwork and resilience. It was wonderful to spend time with the children out of the classroom and to share in new experiences whilst watching them grow in confidence. Well done Year 3. We can’t wait to go on residential again next year!

Athletics season is now here, with lines painted on the field, and dry, fine weather upon us.
This week in PE, Barn Owls worked on techniques for improving sprinting. Mr Pugh coached us in starting strategies, what body positions to aim for at different points in a race, and how to finish. Arthur and Edith are demonstrating the Olympic 'lean forward' in photos below, and suitable arm positions and stride lengths are being used by pupils. We also had the chance to time runs, so that each could try to better their times. Lots of pupils reported aching thighs after the lesson (but they still ran laps for the Oke 13). In Forest School Year 4 used natural materials they found in the forest school area to make their own name plaque.
