Take a look at our well loved reading display! In the Snowy Owls we have read, enjoyed and explored all of these texts this year as well as the Iron Man which we will be finishing this week.
As part of their learning on rivers the Snowy Owls built towns using Lego. They worked as a team to create their towns and then explored the effects of flooding.
The Snowy Owls had another great visit to Springfields. The children read their books and chatted to the residents - a great occassion for all.
Year 6 have been working on a maths and DT projects around running a bakery. This project culminated in the children making a prototype for their bakery. A lot of fun was had by all and it was great practice for secondary school in bringing cooking ingredients to school. The washing up was also completed successfully! Well done Year 6.Snowy Owls were practising their French for real purposes this week. They were selling items in their shop to each other. We talked about 'la rentrée' when families in France purchase all equipment that the children need for September.Joel Sutton from the Youth Mental Health Foundation (youthmentalhealthfoundation.org) joined Barn Owls on Thursday to help us identify our inner genius. We also did some team building games where we learnt how we all use our strengths differently.The sun shone for the recent summer fair and everyone enjoyed exploring the different games and watching Morris dancing displays from Lowdenstone Morris Dancers and the Bridestowe Morris Dancers. I very enjoyable afternoon with lots of cake and ice cream.
The Owlets have been making boats as part of Design and Technology. They designed them and then used different materials to create their designs. They will be holding 'The Bridestowe Boat Race' very soon!
Sports Day was a great success! We were very pleased the rain dried up and everyone got to enjoy their picnic and the races in the afternoon. In the morning, we carried out a number of field events and the afternoon was dedicated to the track events. A big thank you to Ms Baker for all her work in organising everything.Barn Owls children shared their pop up books with Snowy Owls on Tuesday afternoon. Barn Owls children were excited to share their fairy tales and talk to the children about their DT skills in making the pop up mechanisms.It has been wonderful having the Owlets join the Year 1 children in the Tawny Owls classroom this week. Having transitions that are fun and meaningful are so important to help the pupils adjust to their new learning environment in September.
The Year 1 pupils have been learning about money. They are beginning to recognise coins and notes and be able to count different coins to make a total. Games have been a key motivator in this unit!
