The Tawny Owls have written fantastic stories based on, 'The Bear and the Piano'. To complete their edited versions, they have worked on the computer to produce a front cover. I think you will agree that the results are brilliant!

Snowy Owl Residential 2024!

It was a pleasure to take the our year 3 and 4 children on a trip to the beach and overnight camping stay. The children were a credit to our school and their families. They all fully participated in all of the activities offered to them and flourished at the opportunity to experience new things. The children were able to surf, bodyboard, litter pick, build sandcastles and listen to a talk from the RNLI. The children were in mixed groups with children from 9 schools within the Dartmoor Multi-Academy Trust. This provided a great opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. After a busy day at the beach, the children travelled back to Bradford Primary School where they set up camp. The children all slept well and were up bright and early ready for a delicious breakfast followed by a day full of activities and fun. Thank you to all of the children for making it such a fantastic experience and to parents for supporting their children in having the equipment and resources they needed.

Rev. Brooks Assembly

Rev. Brooks led an assembly all about emotions. We explored the emotions we experience and how this may feel. He used a balloon to symbolise how emotions can build and may lead to anger. He explained that we need to be in control of our anger and not let anger control us and our actions. We discussed strategies we can use to reduce our anger such a deep breathing and finding a quiet space. We never want our anger to get to the point where we feel we are going to pop - like the balloon which Rev. Brooks blew up!

London -25th June 2024

Along with the other 4 schools in the Moorland Hub we went to London yesterday. We are very grateful to Mr Lumby from Milton Abbot who sourced funding from the Houses of Parliament to contribute to our travel costs. Unfortunately, shortly before the visit the House of Parliament contacted us to let us know that we would not be able to visit them, as the had preparations to do ahead of the upcoming elections.
However we had a jam packed day including learning how to use the tube, a river boat from Canary Wharf to Westminster, a walk past Buckingham Palace and Harrods to the Science Museum. It was a memorable day!

In design and technology, the Tawny Owls are learning a useful life skill this term - sewing. They have designed and are currently creating pouches for storing some of their treasured possessions. We think the children are doing an amazing job!

Y6 Normandy

Year 6 all had a fabulous time in France.
On the last day, after another yummy French breakfast and a bit of wake and shake with Miss Spooncer, we visited our partner schools and played some games with the French children. We also visited the British Normandy memorial where Mrs Underwood told us about a veteran she met called Ivan. It was very moving to see the new installation of the 'standing with giants' as well as see the King's wreath that he laid on D day. On our way to the port, we visited the British cemetery in Bayeux where we laid our own wreath.

Barn Owls to Springfields

Barn Owls walked to Springfields residential care home. The children took games to play with the residents. They played bingo, cards, top trumps and ludo. The children were also keen to talk about their recent residentials to Bristol and Normandy. The Year 6 children took their Normandy study books to share with the residents. Mrs Jordan was very proud of the children during the visit. They were calm and kind throughout the visit and very reluctant to get back to school. They hope to visit again soon.

Science - reflection

The Snowy Owls investigated which materials reflected the most light. They discovered that dark materials absorb light so do not reflect well. They used this knowledge to help them design a book bag to keep children safe on their walk to school.

Bikeability

The Year 4s did a great job on their Level 1 Bikeability course. Level 1 takes place on the playground and means that children can learn in a traffic-free environment. All of the children flourished during the session and felt a real sense of achievement at the end.
The children were taught the following skills during the 2 hour session:
Maintain your cycle: make sure your ride is in tip-top condition and make simple repairs
Glide: smooth, calm and collected
Control your bike: including setting off, cruising, slowing down, braking and stopping. You’ll even learn to pedal one handed!
Pedal: without feeling wobbly or out of control
Be aware of your surroundings: looking behind and turning around obstacles.

How to Care for a Baby

The Tawny Owls are looking at the topic, growing and changing in PSHE this half term. Today, the children had to work in groups and discuss what new born babies need and don't need to survive. They thought it was funny when they had to sort pictures of motorbikes and chocolate alongside milk and blankets.

Day One in France - we arrived early on the overnight ferry, and visited Pegasus Bridge to start our learning about D-Day. We then travelled to Bayeux, ate a yummy picnic which included the most delicious chocolate brownie cakes. We visited the Bayeux Tapestry and the Bayeux Cathedral too. We were all very happy to get to the chateau for dinner, outdoor games and dinner of course! Statement Strips

The Tawny Owls have started their new English text, The Bear and the Piano. The class received a letter, with clues in - a bow tie, classical music, a concert poster and the front cover of the book. They created questions about these and answered them, by making predictions.
We then read and explored a few pages of the book and manipulated statements from the text to discuss the use of conjunctions to produce coordinating and subordinating clauses.
