Children from across the school came dressed in clothes which reflect their personality or made them feel happy. Clothes really can effect our mood too!
The Tawny Owls have printed their own paper and created wonderful patterns. They have then used this to create a collage flower. I think you'll agree that they are fantastic!
The Owlets created some wonderful homework this half term. They created igloos from different materials and drew pictures of different people and occupations as part of their topic 'People who help us'.
During the Snowy Owl's last session with Sarah from Devon Wildlife Trust, the children built their own wild dens!
The Snowy Owls and residents at Springfield's Residential Home had a wonderful get together this week. The children enjoyed reading and chatting to the residents - a really worthwhile and valuable link in our community with both young and old gaining so much from the experience.
Children were given the opportunity to choose an activity from a list of possibilities including running, Morris Dancing, worry dolls, art and crochet! Over 20 parents joined us in the various activities. It was great to see the school community coming together to support children in their wellbeing. Understanding that taking time out of the day to do something you enjoy or to learn a new skill can be really good for your mood and have a positive impact on how you are feeling. Thank you to everyone for making the session so successful for our children.
As part of Wellbeing Wednesday, the Tawny Owls have been learning a mindfulness technique - doodling. They first had to finish an already started doodle and then allowed their minds to wander and create their very own doodles.
On Friday 2nd February we celebrated the NSPCC Number Day. Children donated to the NSPCC and brought in number games to play during maths lessons. We played the games in our mixed aged team colours. This was a great way for our older children to demonstrate their leadership qualities. We had an assembly on numbers and watched a video by Johnny Ball on number tricks.
Children in Snowy Owls and Barn Owls have been working hard on their multiplication times tables. Many children this week have improved on their speed and accuracy. Well done!
The Owlets made bird feeders in Forest School with Ranger Rob, using lemons, fat and bird seed. After completion they hung them around the forest area. Well done to all our stars this week for demonstrating the school values of Ambition, Flourish and Respect.
Well done to this week’s golden heart winners for helping to fill other people’s happiness buckets !
This week Cedric won the reading raffle for reading at home at least five times. Well done Cedric! Enjoy the hot chocolate and reading treats this weekend!
This week the Snowy Owls learnt how to program their own animation. The children explored why loops are used in programming.
In English, the Tawny Owls were learning about contractions and how two words can be made into one. The pupils worked in partners, discussing the two given words and how they can be made into their contracted form, then cutting out the letter/s not needed and replacing it with a handwritten apostrophe.
As part of the Tawny Owls PSHE learning this term, the pupils discussed the importance of medicine. They then took part in a high quality conversation about when medicine can become harmful to us. We also looked at where to store medicines and who is responsible for it (both inside and outside of school). The children then found partners and played a board game to help Tania get better.
The Owlets have been learning about Antarctica and materials. As part of their Geography and Science they read 'The Emperors Egg'. A story about penguins and how they care for an egg and baby penguin chick. They then worked in small groups to care for their own eggs and used materials to create protection for their very precious eggs. The children created beds, clothing and hammocks for their fragile eggs and we only lost one egg!The Wildlife Champions completed a successful litter picking mission in the Village earlier this term. As they collected they made a tally of the various litter. The team met to explore their findings which were as follows: Plastic: 32 items, metal: 10 items, paper/card: 7 items, textiles: 3 items and glass: 2 items. As the team found so much litter they decided to do something about it and have created these wonderful posters. The Wildlife Champions message is clear…Don’t leave it! Retrieve it! Please keep our Village clean! Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
Linked to our learning about the Shang Dynasty in history, the Snowy Owls have begun to create their own dragon eyes using pastels. We look forward to sharing the final pieces of art with you.
The Barn Owls put their reading and listening skills to good use this week when they spent time listening to younger children read. They supported the younger members of the school with maturity and everyone enjoyed reading to a Barn Owl. What a wonderful sight.
Congratulations to Evie Southcott who was our first lucky winner of the reading basket. Evie said she loved snuggling up with the blanket, hot chocolate and books. We have been delighted to see so many children completing their 5 reads a week - don’t forget these reads must be initialled by an adult. |
