Recycle Week is an annual event designed to celebrate and promote the benefits of recycling. It creates opportunities for us all to implement positive change that will help protect our planet. The whole school came together in their teams to create a Pudsey model using recycled materials. It was great to see children from all year groups supporting one another and working together towards a shared goal.

In Design Technology, the Snowy Owls created a range of different shaped frame structures using cocktail sticks and blue-tac. The children investigated shape and how to make a secure structure. They explored which shape gave the strongest structure and discovered the importance of a strong foundation to build on. The children had to review their structures and make changes as they went along.
The School Council visited Springfields residential home to play games with, and speak to, the residents. Community connection is key to our personal development journey for the children
The arrival of a mystery box in our English lesson this week has provided an excellent writing stimulus. Can you predict what's in the box?
Children were able to showcase their knowledge and understanding of our current topics by sharing their fantastic final homework pieces with parents. It was wonderful to see parents exploring the homework and asking children questions about their work.
Year 3 children from Lydford and Bridestowe Primaries took part in a STEM Coding Workshop at Immersion Games in Okehampton. Using Lego robots, students worked in a group to complete different tasks exploring the uses of coding and programming in a fun and engaging environment. The children were a credit to the school and were proud of their achievements.
Along with children from 80 schools from across the world, the Tawny Owls and Snowy Owls took part in a live lesson about space. They virtually visited the NASA Space Centre and found out about Mission Lucy. Lucy is the first space mission launched to study the Trojan asteroids. We are excited to find out more about the discoveries it makes.
In science, the Snowy Owls have been investigating states of matter. To help understand how the particles are arranged, the children acted out particles in solids, liquids and gases. The particles in a solid are very close together and in a regular pattern. In a liquid the particles are close together in a random arrangement and slide past each other. In a gas the particles are far apart and move constantly in all directions – can you guess which state of matter the class are representing in each photograph?
We were treated to a fantastic production of Shakespeare on Trial by the Key Stage 2 children. They sang beautifully and delivered their lines confidently and clearly. Well done everyone!
Year 6 and Year 4 have been out and about on their bikes with Marghita this week. They've been finding out how to carry out checks on their bikes, and learning about manoeuvrability and road safety.
Our sensory garden fence is now complete- a quiet reflection space for break, lunch and any time it's needed.
Any donations of natural material wind chimes sensory boards or plants would be greatly appreciated. The year 2 and 3 children had a visit from a Taunton firefighter this morning. The informative talk taught them important messages about how to stay safe in a variety of situations, for example, the Stop, Drop and Roll technique if they ever found their clothing to be on fire. They were given homework which was to see how many fire alarms were in their house and to check them all every month.
What a fantastic way to start the week! Years 4 & 5 made us extremely proud with their excellent behaviour and resilient 'have-a-go' attitudes in trying out a range of challenging activities at Meeth Quarry and Great Potheridge House.
The Snowy Owls have worked hard and earned all of their beads. They were rewarded with a mini sports afternoon. The children all worked hard to show their personal best - well done!
On Friday 27th May, the whole school enjoyed an afternoon of celebrations. There was lots to celebrate with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and the School’s 160th Anniversary. The afternoon started with a picnic on the field and a special Jubilee cupcake kindly prepared by Mrs Berry. Later we welcomed guests from the community including parents, grandparents, the Mayor, residents from Springfields and the local vicar. We all enjoyed a delicious cream tea and ice creams in the sunshine before the traditional games began. The playground was decorated with artwork created by every child in the school. The boards displayed photographs and memories from across the 160 years of the school’s history. The atmosphere was wonderful with everyone enjoying the opportunity to join to celebrate – it is sure to be a day the children will remember.
The Snowy Owls explored the work of William Morris and used this as inspiration to create a piece of patterned artwork. William Morris designs focused on nature and floral motifs which tied closely to our work on plants in science. The children explored repeating patterns, symmetry and tessellation. They have created some wonderful final pieces of which are very effective.
The children confidently presented their home learning to the class. They were able to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of our history focus.
The rain didn't dampen the Snowy Owl's enjoyment and enthusiasm for Forest School this week. We investigated parts of plants and identified perfect and imperfect flowers. The children worked as a team to build shelters. We finished the session with marshmallows around the fire.
This week, children and staff across the school ran their first mile towards their half marathon. It was great to see children supporting and encouraging one another to complete the challenge.
