The School Council were joined by other children from the Moorland Hub schools to sing carols at Waitrose. It was great to see all the children coming together and there were lots of compliments of their singing. We even had a message from a professional singer saying they were very good! The public were generous with their donations and we raised a total of £105 for the five schools.

Thank you to our friends at Open the Book for sharing another Christian story from the Bible - this story was about the birth of Baby Jesus and the preparations which Christians make in the lead up to Christmas. Each child has been gifted a book from the Chapel which tells them more about the Christmas Story.
It was fantastic to welcome so many family members into school this afternoon.
It was a productive hour, where pupils worked in their teams alongside their relatives and peers to make crackers for our Christmas lunch next week. They also had the opportunity to create decorations for the community Christmas tree - as well as one to take home. Thank you to FoBS for organising the resources/craft materials and anyone that made a donation towards these. The Tawny Owls have been studying the Julia Donaldson story, Cave Baby this half term in English. They have re-written the story, edited and published them beautifully. The Tawny Owls team were delighted with the quality of work every child produced and couldn't resist making a display of them. Well done Tawny Owls!
The snow did not put the Tawny Owls off exploring our environmental area again this week! Sara from the Wildlife Trust planned another exciting session, looking at what happens to trees during the seasons and the different types of trees there are (evergreen and deciduous). The pupils then had to hunt for as many of these trees in our forest school, using a leaf recognition chart to help them.
The Tawny Owls have had great fun making their own props and costumes for this years winter play - Say Hello to Little Joe.
During the Tawny Owl's forest school, the pupils looked for signs that Autumn is coming to an end and Winter is beginning. The children discussed the weather turning cold and wet!
Today the children did some whittling independently in their own quiet space. It gave them a chance to have some quiet time in the open and to focus on something else to help clear their minds. Focusing on how well being is an important aspect of everyone's lifestyle.
During Forest School, the Snowy Owls used slate and chalk to illustrate examples of different forces in action. The children shared their work with the rest of the group around the camp fire.
The Year 4 children supported the Year 3 children during computing. I was really impressed with their maturity and how well they took on the role of teacher. The Year 3's listened carefully to their peers.
It was great to be joined by so many families on the walking bus - not only was it a refreshing way to start the day but also helped ease congestion in the village.
The Snowy Owls discussed traffic in the village and the speed which motorists drive through the village. The children investigated the stopping distance of cars and the fact that the faster you travel the longer it takes you to stop!
This week the Tawny Owls enjoyed continuing to learn about animals and their habitats. They also had great fun learning a new version of rock, paper, scissors - nut, mouse, owl!
Some of the Barn Owl children went to the climbing barn in Milton Abbot for a Bouldering event organised by OCRA. The children worked on their climbing skills and faced some fears.
The Owlets are learning about different celebrations this half term. They learnt about how birthdays are celebrated in different countries they then planned birthday parties for each other. This week they have explored different cultural wedding celebrations and have enjoyed role playing weddings.
Children had a very enjoyable Forest School stay and play session exploring the environment and making new friends.
The children at Bridestowe worked together in their house teams to create team coloured Pudsey Bears.
The Red Team worked collaboratively to create a life sized, red Pudsey Bear. The older children were great role models to the younger children and everyone supported one another allowing the group to flourish.
Our school library has been updated thanks to contributions from FOBS and the fantastic staff at Bridestowe. If you would like to join us for a Relax and Read session, please come along - future details and dates will be in the newsletter and BASE magazine. Anybody from our community is welcome, the pupils and staff would love to see you.
The whole school came in wearing odd socks yesterday in a bid to, 'Make A Noise About Bullying'. The children had an assembly on the importance of speaking up if they ever see bullying or are ever bullied themselves, including online/cyber bullying. The Tawny Owls then went on to discuss this further as it relates to their PSHE unit of work. We looked at the differences between being unkind, teasing and bullying.
The Tawny Owls learnt about how trees change throughout the seasons with Ranger Rob. They used fantastic vocabulary such as, xylem which transports water from the roots to the crown.
It was lovely to have so many family members join us for book look in the Tawny Owls. The children are always so proud of their learning and are eager to share this with you.
