As part of Science, the Tawny Owls identified a variety of wild flowers. They went on a hunt in the school grounds and found so many different flowers - it was wonderful to see so many! The children then learnt about the importance of wild flowers in the environment.
Mrs Harris and Mrs Jordan have been teaching rounders skills this week in Barn Owls. The children have been learning about how to throw accurately underarm, and bowl. Children have been leading the warm ups which has been a lot of fun! Robert the Robot visited the children so that he could learn to make a sandwich. The Owlets had to give Robert clear instructions; First wash your hands. Next get two pieces of bread. Then put butter on the bread. The children worked together to make their own sandwiches giving each other clear instructions, then they ate their yummy sandwiches with Robert the Robot!
The Owlets class visited Springfields Residential Home, they shared books and talked with the residents. Thank you to Jack Southcott for supporting our visit.
As part of their Ancient Egyptian topic, the Tawny Owls decoded words written in hieroglyphics. They then wrote their names in the Egyptian writing.
The Tawny Owls saw evidence of the Giant coming to school from the story, Jim and the Beanstalk that they are studying in their English lessons. They were very excited that his footprint was found on our playing field with a note that read, 'Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum!' We wonder what other things may happen around school over the coming weeks!
Our PSHE topic this term in Tawny Owls is all about how to stay healthy. We started by discussing the importance of a healthy diet and eating lots of fruit and vegetables. The children then all contributed pictures to our rainbow collage which will remind us about eating a variety of colours.
The Snowy Owls have worked hard to fill their marble jar and voted for a relaxing afternoon watching a film. Well done for working hard as a team to follow the school rules to earn your marbles.
During Design Technology, the children worked as part of a team to create 3D structures using 2D nets.
Well done to all the Bridestowe swimmers today! The Tawny Owls have been working incredibly hard during their DT sessions, creating these fantastic Ferris Wheels. It is wonderful to see their perseverance throughout this challenging topic and hear their conversations about how to problem solve and overcome difficulties.
The Tawny Owls have been enjoying reading the Minpins during English. They have learnt about word and sentence types, past and present tense, conjunctions and similes and they are beginning to confidently use them in their writing to create interest.
The Wildlife Champions were excited to launch their new project during assembly. They have created their own plastic waste collection box. After lunch each day, cleaned plastic can be posted into the post-box and the Wildlife Champions plan to monitor the amount and type of waste that we have across the school. The Wildlife Champions are keen to reduce the amount of plastic we use and explained the negative impact of plastic on our environment. We look forward to finding out the results of their project.
Another great visit to Springfields. Everyone gets so much from this important community link. A highlight in the week for both old and young. We are very grateful to everyone at Springfields for making us so welcome and catering for us so generously.
Bridestowe Primary School supported Red Nose Day 2024 by wearing 'Silly Hats' to school. There were so many amazing hats. It was fantastic to see some very artistic homemade creations and we even had some children wearing their pants on their heads! Thank you to all our families for all your donations so far.
Barn Owls travelled to Lydford Primary for two music workshops. Children learnt to play the djembe as well as a call and response African song. Thank you to everyone who transported the children between Bridestowe and Lydford.
Today we were joined by Pinocchio, Red Riding Hood, Alice in Wonderland, Bart Simpson, Hermione Granger and many many more characters! Well done everyone for your costumes and sharing your love of books with the younger children.
We were particularly pleased to be joined by "Sophie", the young orphan cello player in 'Rooftoppers' . All the children were delighted to reminisce about the book, by Katherine Rundell, which they had read in Snowy Owls. We were also very pleased to hear Molly demonstrate her cello skills which were inspired by her reading the book. On Thursday 7th March Bridestowe Primary School celebrated World Book Day. It was wonderful to see the children dressed up as so many different book characters. During the day children got into their team colours, then shared books and discussed their characters. We also made book marks and began to write the Blue Peter book reviews. The Owlets welcomed their Mummies and Nannies into class today for a Mothers Day celebration. They sang 'I Love Mum' and then gave their loved ones the biscuits, cards and bouquets they had created. A maths workshop was held in the Owlets class today with many parents attending. They watched a lesson and then the Owlets children showed parents how to use manipulatives to combine two amounts in their independent learning.
The Owlets have been busy baking biscuits for their Mothers Day celebration. They measured and weighed ingredients, then kneaded and rolled their dough.
In Forest School this week the Owlets enjoyed planting climbing beans which linked to their text in Drawing club 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. Over the next few weeks they will be observing them carefully to check how they are growing. I wonder what they may find at the top of their beanstalks!
As part of the Snowy Owl's learning on the book called The Matchbox Diary, the children have collected and shared three objects which tell a story about part of their life. They have enjoyed talking about their own objects and asking questions to find out more about their partner's object. Next week, they will write an autobiography based on the items.
