Rev. Brooks visited the children to talk about saints. The children shared people who are important to them. We learnt that Bridestowe got its name from Saint Bridget who is the saint of the church across the road from our school.
The Snowy Owls visited Springfields. They children sang their Harvest songs and preformed their Harvest poems. The residents were delighted to hear the children sing and the children enjoyed having a captive audience. Another great community link within our village.
The Snowy Owls created their own pre-historic paints! They made a paste using flour and water and then coloured the paste using natural ingredients such turmeric and paprika. They children then used the paints to create their own paintings in the style of cave paintings.
The Owlets have been learning about The Great Fire of London. They retold the historical event using role play and then created their own Tudor houses. They even pretended to be Thomas the baker and made some delicious bread rolls. Ask your children all about The Great Fire of London, you will be amazed!
We were delighted to see the church full of family and community members on Friday for our annual Harvest Festival. The children sang and delivered their lines clearly and confidently. Thank you to everyone who donated items for the food bank.
The Tawny Owls went BIG with their sculptures this week for art in the environmental area. It was lovely to see some of the groups use their recent history knowledge of Brunel to create bridges.
As part of the computing unit, Technology Around Us the Tawny Owls have been learning how to use the keyboard. They have started using the spacebar, shift button for capital letters and a full stop to create a simple sentence.
The Tawny Owls worked in groups to sequence the journey of the lost bear in the text, The Sea Saw by Tom Percival. They are going to be creating their own narratives based on their favourite toy being lost and journeying back to them.
As part of Barn Owls' Music lessons, they are learning, exploring and dancing to a variety of traditional African anthems. They have been learning to drum to different African songs, sing different songs and dance along to the very catchy rhythms. The children have loved exploring this new type of music and it has helped to expand their historical understanding of the Benin Kingdom too. Thank you to Mrs Dixon for leading the children's Musical learning.
We were all treated to an African food tasting experience as part of our ‘Food for Thought Project’ . The children tried yam, plantain, figs, Bobotie and much more. The plantain crisps were definitely a firm favourite.
The children in Barn Owls enjoyed a huge array of different African foods to taste and try today. This was part of their Music and History learning all about the Benin Kingdom in Africa. They were particularly excited and surprised by the yams as well as the different textures and tastes they experienced. Thank you to Meradith Hart for bringing this culinary experience to life!
The Tawny Owls delighted the residentials of Springfields last week, taking their favourite cuddly toys to share with them. The residents loved seeing the children's toys and started reminiscing about their own childhood favourites.
During the science unit, light - the Tawny Owls pupils have learnt how shadows are formed. There were some fantastic discussions about light sources being blocked before creating monster shadows in pairs and drawing them on the playground!
The Tawny Owls have been learning about sculptures. These natural mini sculptures are inspired by the artist Andy Goldsworthy - the children's imaginations were fantastic during this project!
The year 2 pupils had a fabulous morning in the sunshine at a multi-skills festival. They learnt new skills such as hockey and basketball alongside having fun with their friends.
The Owlets enjoyed an afternoon in the great outdoors. They enjoyed jumping in muddy puddles and creating mud slides. There was lots of laughter and huge beaming faces as they developed their gross motor skills while having huge amounts of fun with their friends.The Owlets have been practising writing their sounds and using Fred Talk to make words using magnetic letters. They then used Fred Talk to read words.
The Owlets have been learning about 2D shapes in maths. They used the shapes to create shape pictures of their homes.
The Owlets picked the corn on the cob from the vegetable garden, cooked it and then enjoyed eating the juicy cob.
As part of our English Unit, Barn Owls have been writing reports to support people lead a healthy lifestyle, focussing on their physical and mental health.
