Friends of Bridestowe School

The "Friends of Bridestowe School" play a vital role in helping the school. Here you can find news and important information about FOBS and how they help us.

  • regular meetings are held locally (see calendar for next scheduled)

  • minutes from these meetings are displayed on the board in the school entrance
  • we are always looking for new volunteers to help improve our children's education

The Friends’ of Bridestowe Primary School meet once every half term, normally at the Fox and Hounds Pub. Our meetings are pretty informal and normally last no longer than 2 hours.
We’ve been running for many years and our main aim is to help the school by providing funds to purchase things that benefit the school and the children, in work and at play!

  • Exhibition of drawings

  • Friends of Bridestowe School (FOBS) would like to invite you to an exhibition of the children’s drawings for the new adventure playground. As you may know, we are trying to raise sufficient funds to replace the ageing playground equipment and offer the children something new, colourful and stimulating.
  •
  • What better place to start than to ask them what they would like. They have come up with some great ideas and we thought it would be good to share these with you. You can also see the chart that is in school, showing the children how well we are doing for the fund raising and how far up the ladder we still have to go! They are really enthused about this project and we hope that you will be too.

  • Please try to support us by coming along. We are going to advertise this around the village as well – so it’s not just about raising money, but also about mixing and creating an event the whole community can join in with.

  • May fayre
  •
  • Advance notice –May fayre @ School. W/c 24 May

  • In recent months we have bought computer software, bicycle helmets, a camera, a new shed, a wormery and an industrial salad spinner (to name but a few)!

Last month we managed to secure sponsorship from the Manor House Hotel in Okehampton and bought a new sports kit for the school. This was amazing news! The children that represent the school at sporting events can now look extra smart (when they win!). We’re now looking at ways to raise money so we can add tracksuits as well.

None of these extra things would be possible without the effort of the FOBS members and the parents and teachers who also help.

If you’d like to come to the next meeting, feel free - we always advertise them in the newsletters and on the board outside school. We would welcome new people or any new ideas about fund raising and help in supporting our school as much as we can

Please contact Julia Turney 01837 861200(Chair) or Sam Wharton(Vice-Chair) 01837 861277 if you have any suggestions for us, or would just like to know more.

    Thanks
    FOBS

a message from the Headteacher:

'FOBS have done a wonderful job in my short time at Bridestowe so far. A fantastic 'clean-up' event was held on a spring weekend - the school was a different place on Monday morning, flower displays, pathways free of weeds and a terrific job done preparing the pond in the environmental area. FOBS members were responsible for securing sponsorship (The Manor Hotel - Okehampton), for our new football and rugby kit. With four brand new gazebos for our sporting events at home and away, I (on behalf of the staff and children), would like to say a big thank you to FOBS for their time and valuable 'behind the scenes' work, which helps to make Bridestowe School a great place to be.'
